What is underwriting?

Underwriting is a way to support public television by sponsoring programs or blocks of programs on PBS39 with your marketing budget.  Underwriting announcements are 15-seconds or 30-seconds in length and are limited in the scope of what can be presented.  The underwriting message between uninterrupted programs on PBS39 share with the viewer your business's support of public television while communicating to the viewer basic information about your business.  The underwriting message communicates the who, what and where of an advertising message avoiding the qualitative aspects of the of the marketing information.

Your PBS39 underwriting sponsorship not only provides financial support to public television in Northeast Indiana, it allows your business to engage with viewers who value quality programming.  A “PBS Sponsorship Awareness and Impact on Quality Perceptions Survey” finds that two-thirds of viewers would choose to purchase from a company that sponsors PBS, all other things being equal.  Underwriting support of PBS39 connects underwriters and sponsors with an audience who place more value on businesses supporting public television.

PBS39 broadcasts 4 channels free to area viewers to better serve the community and target specific audiences.

Channel 39.1 is our traditional public television channel.  Evening programs enlighten, educate and inform audiences while connecting your business and viewers to worlds of science, nature, current events, history, drama and more.  Your support of PBS39 elevates the stature of your business in the community to join with loyal public television viewers.  Underwriting support of PBS39 is more than financial;  It opens your business doors to a community of viewers engaged and supportive of those business who support Public Television.   It is an investment in your business from both a philanthropic and marketing position.

PBS39.1 and PBS39.2 KIDS: If it's children and their parents your business would like to reach consider underwriting on PBS39-1 during the daytime with programs like Curious George, Sesame Street, Wild Kratts and other children's programming.  For 24-hour daily impact, consider PBS39.2. This is a dedicated 24/7/365 children's programming channel featuring award winning, non-commercial childrens programs broadcast daily. Your message will target children watching their favorite learning programs anytime of the day or night, weekday or weekend.  Over 40% of the PBS KIDS audience are adults 18+ (Source: NTI Distribution of average weekly cumulative audience)

PBS39.3/CreateTV: This channel features all the how-to and lifestyle programs you can imagine. Learn from the experts tips and ideas for cooking, travel, home improvement, lawn and garden, and crafting.  Your message will be placed between these 30-minute programs and will reach D-I-Yers and others who could only imagine themselves in the trenches getting their hands dirty!

Monthly Program Guide and Website Sponsorship

The PBS39 website averages approximately 125,000 viewers per month. Sponsorship of the PBS39 website positions your business logo message (and a link back to your website) to an audience of curiosity-seekering PBS39 viewers.  Your business logo can be strategically placed on the PBS39 website adding additional impressions of your business among your prospects and customers.

Locally Produced Live Programs – 5 nights a week at 7:30pm.

Matters of the Mind offers viewers the chance to interact with one of this area's most respected mental health experts Dr. Jay Fawver. Matters of the Mind is a frank and intimate live on-air discussion with viewers about mental health issues. Since 1997, local businesses have been sponsoring Matters of the Mind and Dr. Fawver Monday’s at 7:30 on PBS39-1 with rebroadcast on 39.4 Tuesday at 8pm.

HealthLine is a fast-paced interactive program discussing a variety of medical issues. The program keeps its viewers informed of the latest developments in the worlds of medicine, health and wellness. Since January of 1996, Healthline’s informative half-hour has featured local experts from diverse medial resources and backgrounds putting developments and trends into a local perspective.  Be the expert in your medical discipline on Healthline Tuesdays at 7:30 on PBS39.1 with rebroadcast on PBS39.4 Wednesdays at 8:00pm; Thursdays at 10:30pm; Saturdays at 4:00pm; Sundays at 5:00pm.

LIFE Ahead is this area's only weekly interactive television program sharing resources and discussion for a variety of topics relative to your LIFE Ahead. The program targets a 50+ audience.  Viewers with aging parents, children and/or grandchildren, careers and the juggling act that goes with it all will find value from the experts presented weekly.  Are you an expert on a topic relative to this generation of viewers to LIFE Ahead?  Share your insights of LIFE Ahead Wednesdays at 7:30 on PBS39.1 with rebroadcast on PBS39.4 Thursdays at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 6:00am; Saturdays at 4:30pm and Sundays at 5:30pm.

PrimeTime39 is an in-depth look at events, activities, organizations and community perspectives in and around Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio. During the Indiana Legislative Session, PrimeTime39 features local legislators engaged in discussions about the status of laws, policies, taxation and more.  Show your support of the area with sponsorship of PimeTime39 Fridays at 7:30 on PBS39.1 with rebroadcast on 39.4 Sundays at 8pm.


Auction: Supported by local businesses with donated items  to PBS39, this annual event begins October 1st and continues for the the following 5 to 6 weeks on line, viewers are encouraged to bid for items on-line but also features a live broadcast for those highly sought after and/or high-value items. Bidders in the auction vie for items that could include automotive maintenance/repair, dining, shopping sprees, get-aways, and one of a kind treasures are some of the items found.  Donors receive promotion on the PBS39 website and on air for their support.

Antiques & Collectibles: Whats It Worth?

The last Sunday in April, PBS39 brings together area experts and evaluators at Parkview Field – Lincoln Financial Event Center for an afternoon of blowing the dust off treasures found in the attic, basement or on a forgotten bookshelf.  It’s a fun fundraising event with sponsor booths and local interest.

PBS39 Pledge Sponsorship

PBS39 embarks on Pledge Drives to generate much of the local suppoort that makes our pgoramming possible. Local businesses can support live pledge drive broadcast events with sponsorship that includes financial support and volunteers from the business in company logoed attire. It’s a fun, face paced evening in the PBS39 studio with Northeast Indiana on the other side of the television screen.

Documentaries and Special Projects

With a passion for educating, inspiring, and informing the community in which we live and serve, PBS39 produces local documentaries and special projects to preserve and celebrate the rich history and uniqueness of our area.  Funding of documentary programs and special projects associates your business with that program for all broadcasts, regardless of when or where it might be seen on a television.  PBS39 is always on the look-out for projects and documentaries that tell the story of our region or a video field trip that presents a unique educational experience to area children from Kindergarten through High School.  Businesses who underwrite these programs receive funding credits at the beginning and end of these programs.
